Good evening and happy Sunday!
It is so hard to believe that we are in the home stretch – the 4th quarter! Please be sure you are checking your child’s 3rd quarter report card and staying on top of grades as we near the end of the year. Senior parents – please stay extra vigilant and do not let senioritis kick in at the end!
Speaking of the home stretch – our high school baseball team has the privilege of playing at Foley Field (UGA’s Baseball Field) on Tuesday, March 18th at 6:00 p.m. vs. Athens Academy. The admission is free. What a great opportunity to bring our youngest Patriots to cheer on the high school team! Please see the attached flyer.
We held our Community Listening Session last Monday at the high school. We had 46 people attend in person. We currently have a survey available for those who were not able to attend. We have 147 responses so far, but we are hoping for many more. Please take the time to complete the survey and then encourage your middle or high school student to complete it, too. The link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CMLS2025.
The March Mental Health Calendar Series is now on the website and can be viewed by clicking this link: https://www.oglethorpe.k12.ga.us/o/ogs/article/2090572.
We were able to do a mid-year check-in with the Cook Center, who produces the content, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that our parents are using the resources. We have had 344 different people access the website, and 390 different sessions have been viewed. There are two different ways to use the resource – you can register for a parent guidance session from the calendar or visit the website and complete one of the on-demand courses. The six most popular parent guidance sessions have been:
· De-escalating Cycles of Conflict
· ABC’s of Substance Use & Vaping
· Emotional Regulation – Part 1 – Recognizing What’s Wrong
· How to Motivate Your Child
· What Parents Need to Know About Suicide Prevention
· Body Positivity: Nurturing Self-Image
The Cook Center also offers Parent Coaching. This is not currently available to us, but I am trying to gauge the interest from parents. If you think this is something that you would use, please send me an email letting me know. A parent would have a dedicated coach with weekly video conferencing and the ability to text and chat in-between. This would just be another support system for parents. If there is enough interest, we could potentially look for a grant to fund it.
Finally, thank you to those of you who mentioned that the Anonymous Alerts icon was difficult to locate on the district website and app. I agree that it was! We have now added it as a link on each site, so it is easier to find. You can also download the Anonymous Alert App from the App Store. The school code is oglethorpecs. See the attachment for how the app looks.
I am looking forward to seeing each of you at Foley Field. Go Patriots!
