Residency Audit

Oglethorpe County School System will be conducting a residency audit for grades three, six and nine, at the beginning of the school year. In other words, students entering 3rd grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade will need to show proof of residency prior to school starting in August in order to be scheduled into a homeroom and scheduled for classes.

Traditionally, we have only collected proof of residency when a student first enrolled either in kindergarten or when they transferred into our school system. In order to be good stewards of our taxpayers’ money, we need to verify proof of residency more than once in a student’s 13 years in the school system. We apologize in advance for this slight inconvenience, but as educating students has gotten more expensive, it is imperative that our tax dollars remain focused on Oglethorpe residents or those who pay tuition.

Proof of residency documents that can be accepted are the following:

  • Mortgage statement, or

  • Current lease/rental agreement (will be verified), or

  • Current utility bill (gas, water, or electric only)

If you do not have any of the above methods to prove your residency, please call 706-743-8128 to schedule an appointment to review the residency affidavit and complete the necessary paperwork. The residency affidavit is valid for one year only.

The proof of residency document can be dropped off at your student’s school any time after July 17th or at our central office at 735 Athens Road, Lexington, anytime between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, or click the link to enter your information and upload a copy of your proof of residency.

If you have students in more than one grade, please click the link for each child’s grade level, as the forms will be directed to different schools.

If you have any questions, please contact your child's school or our central office.
